Microsoft through Bing is now typo squatting.

There's a thing in San Diego called Restaurant Week where restaurants in San Diego offer lower cost meals to attract customers, and hope to get discovered. This year my wife wanted to check out several new restaurants so she sent me a link to browse the list of participating restaurants.

The site is located at http://www.sandiegorestaurantweek.com/. The link my wife sent me was http://www.sandiegorestrauntweek.com/.

Try them side by side:

There's no magic, no link redirection up my sleeve. Try it yourself. Copy and paste them.

  • http://www.sandiegorestaurantweek.com/ (Real site)
  • http://www.sandiegorestrauntweek.com/ (Bing typo squatted)

And once more just to make it a little more clear:

  • http://www.sandiegorestaurantweek.com/ (Real site)
  • http://www.sandiegorestrauntweek.com/ (Bing typo squatted)

Microsoft can't convince people to use their service legitimately, are now attempting to force them through deception.
