Don't you hate it when programs drop stuff that belongs in Application Support into Documents?

Microsoft, I'm looking at you.

So here's how to get that pesky Microsoft User Data folder back where it belongs.

  • Move it where it belongs
  • Make a symlink
  • Hide the symlink

In order to perform these operations you'll need the Xcode Developer Tools installed (Xcode is on your Mac OS X install disc in case you're looking for it).

cd ~/Documents
mv Microsoft\ User\ Data ../Library/Application\ Support/Microsoft\ User\ Data
ln -s ../Library/Application\ Support/Microsoft\ User\ Data Microsoft\ User\ Data
/Developer/Tools/SetFile -P -a V Microsoft\ User\ Data

Feel happy that your Documents are your Documents again.
